When it comes to social media, Instagram is one of the most famous platforms available. It allows users to easily showcase their photos, develop their brand, and even quickly develop an audience through followers and likes.
If you’re new to Instagram, gaining followers and likes can be tricky. You may be tempted to buy followers and likes from third party apps, but this won’t help you in the long run. What you need is a true, engaged audience that is actually interested in your content. In this blog post, we’re going to list a few ways on how to gain more followers on Instagram and expand your audience!
Utilize Your Link in Bio
The first thing you want to do is prove your legitimacy. With so many catfishes on Instagram nowadays, how are audiences going to know it’s really you? By putting content in your biography, you’re authenticating yourself and building your brand identity. Examples of things you can include could be links to projects you’ve done, your personal website, or content you’re interested in promoting.
Unfortunately, Instagram only allows you to put one link in your bio. But if you have multiple things you would like to put, don’t worry! One thing you can do is create a Jemi profile. Jemi allows you to create a personal website and showcase as much content as you’d like on it - you can put videos, personal projects, merch, anything! The best part is, all this content is accessible through one personalized Jemi link (jemi.app/username). Hashtags are one of the best ways you can publicize your Instagram account. Using hashtags allows you to target specific audiences and expand your reach in different communities. When using hashtags, make sure to use specific hashtags instead of general ones. For example, if you’re posting a picture of a sunset in New York City, you can use the hashtag #manhattansunset instead of general hashtags like #nyc or #sunset. By using specific hashtags, you are increasing the chances of your photo being seen in hashtag communities, rather than it getting lost in the populated communities.
Not only do you want to be authentic, but you also want to be consistent. By posting at consistent times, you are furthering your Instagram identity and creating a reliable post schedule for your audience. Your audience will be able to anticipate the arrival of new content, saving them the efforts of having to continuously figure out when your next post may be. Posting consistently will also keep your audience engaged, as sometimes if you are inactive, followers may forget why they followed you in the first place.
Promote Your Instagram Everywhere!
You don’t want to limit the exposure of your Instagram profile to just the Instagram community. You want everyone outside the app to be able to find your Instagram as well, and the best way to do this is through promotion. You can promote your account by pasting your instagram link (instagram.com/username) to any other platform you’d like - this can be your personal website, projects, or even other social media platforms!
If you have other platforms besides Instagram you’d like to promote (other social media like Facebook, Snapchat, etc.) it may be tedious to promote so many links. But don’t worry! Similar to the link in bio aspect, you can use your profile on Jemi to promote all your social media platforms in one link. Just make sure to add all your social media handles on your Jemi profile, and you’re good to go! By promoting your Jemi link, anyone who sees it will be able to view all your social media accounts.
Interact With Your Followers Through Mailing Lists and Memberships
Posting your photos through the Instagram algorithm can be tricky sometimes. Even though you are sharing your photos with all your followers, it is likely that not all your followers will be able to see it. It is not exactly clear how Instagram filters a person’s feed -- sometimes it is filtered on popularity, people you interact with the most, or even time posted. As a result, you cannot rely on Instagram to always showcase your content to all your followers.
To solve this, one thing you can do is create a mailing list! Mailing lists ensure that your followers will always receive your content regardless of what the Instagram algorithm shows them. To create a mailing list, just go to your Jemi dashboard and click on “Page Builder.” From there, you can click on “follow form.” Now, whenever you promote your Jemi link, followers can subscribe to your mailing list by putting their email! You are free to post anything in these newsletters: updates, sneak peeks of content, new projects, thoughts of the day, anything!

Memberships also share content with your audience, but unlike the follow form, you can determine whether you’d like this membership to be paid or not. By using memberships, you can earn consistent monthly payments while continuing to share the work you love. You are able to offer anything in your membership - some ideas include exclusive Instagram tips, access to direct messaging, sneak peeks of new posts, anything! To create a membership, just click on “Memberships” on Jemi’s dashboard. By using Jemi memberships, you’ll be able to monetize and share consistent content with your fans without having to worry about the Instagram algorithm. Build Relationships With Your Followers
Similar to the last tip, it is important to engage with your audience and consistently share content with them. You want your followers to be more than just a number on instagram - the relationship between you and your followers should be authentic and real! By creating a relationship, you are making your audience more engaged and interested in your content. One way to establish a relationship is by providing opportunities and services for them to engage with you. For example, you can do Q&As, have virtual dinners on Zoom, do customized videos for your fans, or anything else that relates to your brand!
You are free to do this directly on the Instagram platform, but promoting these opportunities can be difficult given that Instagram is mainly known for only sharing pictures. But don’t worry!
